A Story of Modding in Civilization V – Part I

Count this as my first post in SRQBlog in the games category and in being the first, I will take a moment to define “modding” as well as discuss where my “position” in this underworld is. Modding is a slang expression for modifying hardware or software to do something different than the designer’s published version intended. I consider myself an old-timer. I have dabbled in modding games since I re-wrote half of Tuesday Morning Quarterback for the Apple IIe to play and record  NFL formula generated schedules, regular and post seasons, display statistics,  and give all-star caliber players bonuses. GDO, A Kickstarter Post Mortem

The English Poet William Cowper once wrote: “Not to understand a treasure’s worth till time has stole away the slighted good, is cause of half the poverty we feel, and makes the world the wilderness it is.”  GDO is a game that differentiates and improves upon all other games of the same genre, in the same market. Our failure was to successfully communicate that to the public in a way that would attract the attention of those with the power to draw eyes and the minds behind them to our project. The Future of CQS and GDO

I wrote the following piece as update #11 in our GDO Kickstarter project. I thought I would let it live on in another place as my first blog post. Today is May 14. Seven days remain on our Kickstarter. We are all realists here, and when we understood we weren’t going to get major game / press coverage, we knew that insufficient “eyeballs” were going to actually see our project to be successful.We are still supporting it and there are good reasons to do so.
